Game 1
Nats 11
Phils 6
What's that about best made plans? Brad Lidge was supposed to become the closer moving Bret Myers back to the #1 slot in the rotation. Myers did not look sharp and Lidge is on the DL necessitating Tom Gordon's presence in the closer role which of course, was disastrous on Opening Day 2008. Someone has stolen Pat Gillick's plans for his last shot at winning the Big One. Let's hope this clears up soon enough to stave off the natural urge for Philadelphians to start chanting E-A-G-L-E-S!
The good:
Typical run production from the lineup at The Bank. Can't complain about 6 runs on opening day in 36 degree weather. JC Romero looks very sharp.
The bad:
Bret got roughed up. It wasn't hideous but not very pretty either.
The ugly:
The elderly:
Tom Gordon is 56 years old. He never seems to pitch well in situations such as yesterday (9th inning, tie game.) He seems more suited to the 8th with a 1 or 2 run lead. Something about a torn labrum.
The skinny on all this:
Please, its game one. Put down the tea leaves.
